The red clinker brick wall in front of the corner of the building comes from the Gdańsk shipyard and forms a memorial to the contribution of the Polish trade union movement Solidarność to the upheavals in Europe that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany.
In the foreground is the memorial consisting of eight white crosses for GDR refugees who were killed by GDR border guards while attempting to flee to the West.
Zeichnen zusammen mit der Skizzenkollegin Dominika Wroblewska am Reichstagsgebäude. Die rote Klinkermauer vor der Ecke des Gebäudes stammt von der Danziger Werft und bildet ein Mahnmal für den Beitrag der polnischen Gewerkschaftsbewegung Solidarność zum Umwälzungen in Europa – die zum Fall der Mauer und zur Vereinigung Deutschlands geführt hat. Im Vordergrund das aus acht weißen Kreuzen bestehende Mahnmal für DDR-Flüchtlinge, die bei ihrer versuchten Flucht in den Westen von DDR Grenzern getötet wurden.

“The GDR’s border fortifications ran along the eastern side of the Reichstag building (today the home of the German Bundestag). The southern bank of the Spree belonged to West Berlin, while the water itself was on East Berlin territory. In 1971, on the tenth anniversary of the construction of the Wall, a group of private citizens called the “Berliner Bürger-Verein” established the “Weisse Kreuze” (White Crosses) memorial site at the point where, until 1990, the outer wall met the riverbank.”
